Tidying the Comp
Hi, there! Just a comp update:
We've started proper compositing now while the last few shots are rendering away. Here are some still from a couple of shots theyre not final but close, just need some more attention to detail and possible more playing with the colours. But at least for now all the passes and our nuke pipeline seems to be giving good results without breaking, so we're pretty happy about that.
Cheers!

Comping Progress
Untitled from daniel Borg on Vimeo.
well this is kinda where we're at right now for comping, most of the shots are rendering and we're trying to find a suitable nuke workflow to getting looking just right. This is far from finalised, because we have some issues with mv3d/2d which is behaving a wee bit oddly on the nuke zblur node. Cg needs proper color correction, proper grain match (we should do this by getting grain samples from the actual camera sensor we used), the whole comp needs a grade to tie together, plus Z-Depth needs just a wee bit more experimantion. Also, we are re-rendering most of the beauty passes again because we discovered something on the shader that removes the harsh black outlines that can be seen in this one, this should at the end also help with light wrap to flatten plate + cg even more.
The compression on the vid is terrible though, colours change quite drastically.
Cheers!

Shot 22/23/24 in Sequence.
Animation is still being tidied up. Working on making DeeTree jump towards the door instead of running so it links up with the next shot. WeeTwo has barely been touched in Shot 23 but the test was done to see how the movement in the shots work together.

Shot 6
The first part of shot 6. He turns around and walks towards the door after this clip cuts. Had trouble making his arms do something convincing, when you consider the size of them you think the most likely thing to do would be to drag them along the floor, but this makes him look sad, which we don't want. Will post an update as soon as I figure out the best way to go about it.
Cheers,
Mike.

Hey guys. Just looking for a little feedback on this shot I posted previously. Trying to make it a little more interesting rather than just a walk cycle, although I do kind of like it. I've included the perspective and the cam's view so you can see what's going on. Looks okay from the perspective view but not so great through the cam. Anyway, this is just an idea for now so would be great to hear what you think.

Comp_test_shot_17
Untitled from daniel Borg on Vimeo.
Testing 40 rendered frames worth of shot 17. Still needs quite a lot added in comp, like motion vector, depth passes, colour correcting, prob some chromatic_aberration.
Animation Tests
Shot 22.
A few touch ups needed here and there, but happy with most of it. Arche1 will be in the foreground in the final version.
Shot 17.
This shot is where the characters get a little over excited at the sound of the alarm clock. Still working on perfecting WeeTwo. :)

Huge thank you to Paul "The Wizard" Boyd for his contributions in tidying up our rigs and giving them the extra flexibility that they needed. We owe you a beer or 10!

Score!
We just received a brilliant first score for our film from our music man, Mesknot Resendiz a.k.a. PARLAPHONE. and as i am sitting here listening to it and thinking that it is a really good start i realised we never actually put up anything saying he is involved.
well i'll put up a link to his stuff here :
http://soundcloud.com/parlaphone
and soon we'll post a pre-vis maybe or something with the track on it.
Thanks!

Texture test
Hey guys, have been experimenting with textures for the last few weeks, here is the latest result. It's important that the realistic jumper texture blends well with the plain skin of the character so this has been the focus, have left the colour of the jumper out for now as its not currently working with the rest of the model. Also still fine tuning SSS shader and experimenting with the overall colour but generally happy with the direction its going in.
Layout/Scene Setting/Tracking
Since we got a first pass on the live action edit, we started out testing out some shots tracking them and placing geometry so we see how well it is flowing. We should have a pre-vis good and ready to go definitely by xmas. In the meantime here's a couple of tracks to give an idea. Cheers!

Live action first pass
Obviously an early version but its looking good already, a few minor alterations then were ready to start tracking.
Thanks to Matt Cameron for helping with the live action shoot, the edit and for giving us some great advice and feedback.
Cheers,
Mike.

Eyes testing
Hi there, we realise eyes are almost never present in the 3d models and other tests we showed so, this wee test should give an idea of how we intend to do it and the countless possibilities of expressions this could give to our characters. Thanks for listening over and out :)

doortestcomp from daniel Borg on Vimeo.
An early test with one of our charcters comped in nuke, its far from anything final. Still lots of experimenting to go through but it is a half-decent result, masks are not finalised. We are moving to putting together some more complex comps now, to be posted soon!

Animatic
Hey guys,
Here is the first version of our animatic...would have been good to incorporate more sound effects but for time purposes I think we have the necessary ones that help get the point across. Keep in mind it was put together before we met with Matt and Ian who are helping direct the live action footage. Alot of shot angles and transitions have changed and have gone back to reintegrate character - environment interaction. As usual all comments are welcome! :)
Cheers,
Mike.

DeeTree
Well here's my first post on the "My Welcome Intruders" blog. Just thought i'd give you a wee sneaky peak at the 3D progress so far. Currently experimenting with textures and teeth shapes for "DeeTree". Still early days, we will be going back to completely remodel although probably wont be for a while as filming has just been scheduled for the end of next week. Hope you like!

First track test for team 'The Flying Duchess'
Hi, there!
Just a wee track test i did for A test Kieran is running for his film. Track the footage he gave me,
and applied in maya to basic geometry to see how well it was tracking, its a pretty good result for now
Check out their blog to see the integration of the track! :)
